Highveld Techno Park Comes in Top 10 of Fastest Broadband Speeds

Category Commercial Property News

The Q4 2017 Mt Broadband Speed Test was conducted at the end of last year, and Highveld Techno Park ranked 6th out of all the major suburbs in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The test confirmed that Highveld Techno Park's average download speed was 30.358 Mbps and average upload speed was 28.426 Mbps, with a latency speed of 28 ms.

The test was conducted by asking Android and iOS users in the two major cities to use the My Broadband Speed Test app to test their Wi-Fi and mobile connection speeds. Over 200,000 users across the country took part in the test and their data was compiled by My Broadband to calculate the results.

The top contender in the test turned out to be Midstream Estate, which had the impressive, highest average download speed of 42.57Mbps. Cornwall Hill Country Estate and Country Lane Estate came in second on 36.42Mbps for download speed, and Durbanville and Bellville third on 34.70Mbps.
The top 10 participating suburbs, in descending order, include:

*Midstream Estate
*Cornwall Hill Country Estate and Country Lane Estate
*Durbanville and Bellville
*Yzerfontein
*Sharonlea
*Highveld Techno Park
*Aldo Park
*Schauderville, Parkside, Adcockvale Extension, Holland Park
*Olifantsfontein
*Parkview

The Broadband Speed Test app is still available on their site, for anyone wishing to check their connection speeds.

My Broadband did further testing in their Q4 2017, one such test was a quality test to assess South Africa's best network. After performing 113,117 speed tests, the results indicated the MTN is South Africa's optimum network. MTN had the fastest average download speed at 22.2Mbps, trailed by Vodacom on 21.63Mbps.
After the data capture was complete, which took place between October and December 2017, each network was given an average score out of 10 based on their performance. MTN was given the highest score of 9.98, Vodacom a close second at 9.38. Telkom and Cell C came in slightly lower down the ladder at 6.72 and 6.41 respectively.

MTN recently received further achievement in their first 5G trial, which took place in Johannesburg earlier this year. MTN managed to achieve speeds of 20 Gbps, with a latency of less than 5 ms. This test was followed by the first outdoor 5G trial by MTN and Huawei in May this year. The results were slightly lower but were only to be expected in the field test. These two tests have blazed the trail for South Africa to receive 5G networks in the near future and keep up with international trends.
